What I have Learned from Editing with Audacity.
My thoughts on Audacity, and why I use it.
Audacity saved my life. Not literally, but if you’re looking for some grade A audio editing software, Audacity is the way to go. With Audacity I was able to edit my .m4a, mp3 and other audio files so that I could create a more fine tuned Podcast.
Full disclosure: I’m new to this.
Before creating my podcast I had little to no experience with audio in any form. Sure, my ears work, I listen to music and I know the basic physics behind wavelengths. But asides from that I have never broken down what good audio should sound, look and feel like. This changed as soon as I hit record. From day 1 I knew that I wanted — needed — a mic. However, this realization didn’t sink in until I started editing my audio.
Initially, I went through 2 other audio editing tools before I settled on Audacity, which I am happy I did. With Audacity I have been able to edit my audio by cutting, pasting, adjusting wavelengths, increasing density and the sorts.
Like I said, I am new to audio, but what I have learned so far is that:
- You can do amazing things with some simple editing tools.
- I need to improve how I speak, my speed, tonality and the depth to my voice.
- Most people use an embarrassing amount of filler words.
- YouTube and the web are some of the best resources anyone could have when learning something new.
- A good microphone pays dividends.
Yes, most of those points aren’t directly related to audio. However, they outline the key opportunities for improvement within my Podcasting abilities.
Audacity, has been a life saver, and while I am still new to the software I can see just how useful and effective it will be. Needless to say, I am stoked to be diving deeper into it everyday.
